Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:1-2 KJV)
Cinnamon and apples are my favorite scent at the local candle shop. But these fragrances can make your entire home smell intoxicating and inviting. Nothing sets you apart from your home like its cleanliness. The same is true for a Christian. If your heart isn’t clean, then who can tell of Christ’s existance?
When you look at the world we live in it’s sickening to know the fifth and decay that exists. With sin resides among us, its hard to see God there because He isn’t living in our hearts. Sin is evident by the daily news we watch on our televisions. It can be discouraging to see, and many times I simply turn it off. Its nerve wrecking to watch all of the hate and crimes that we see daily in our society. Furthermore, I can’t even begin to imagine the heart-break it must cause my Lord.
That’s why it is so important for us to do a daily check-up and to keep ourselves in-line with God’s word daily. It’s not just reading the Bible alone that counts, but its also memorizing the scriptures and keeping them hidden in our hearts. If we do not, then we will lose the blessings that only He can provide. What a waste that would be, because God’s love is pretty amazing to behold.
When our hearts are in the right place, then God’s love will shine through and will be evident in our lives. There is nothing sweeter than this. When our lives intersect with God’s love, His blessings can begin to flow. What greater gift can we give God than to lead others closer to Him? So the question remains, is your heart in-tuned?
Father, thank you for Your unfailing love. I ask that its flavor never fall from my lips. May Your word always stay hidden in my heart. I pray in Your sweet name, Amen.
