This week we have been hard at work again. My dad is right at the last few things to complete the roof. YAY! I’m so thrilled, because that is one of the most stressful parts of remodeling a house. Mainly because of all the inspections that you must go through. Boy was that chore. . .thanks dad.
I’m excited to show some new pictures this blog post of the house. I’m sorry if these are not the best quality though. That is due to the lighting in the house at the moment. You have to be in the right kind of light to get the best quality of a picture. So I apologize in advance.
I’m going to first show you my craftroom–unfinished of course–but its going to be great once all of the shelving and miscellaneous things are done to it. Just watch and see as we unveil them. It’s funny how sometimes you can do a ton of work to something, and when you look back at the pictures you realize it doesn’t look as much as you did. That’s how it is going in this house so far. LOL!
The craftroom will be one of my most beloved rooms in the house. It will, because I’ve dreamed of having a room like this for a long. . .long time. I’m the type of person that likes everything in its place when I can. So having the space to do that will be a wonderful blessing in disguise. Right now though, we are all in dust. The carpet has been removed by my two nephews.
This photo is the left side of the room. We are going to probably paint over that panelling. I really don’t like it. Would like to have some color in there. That’s why I decided to do this.
So I’ve been working in the kitchen. I’ve done all of the bleaching in the kitchen and throughout the house. That’s completely done now. . .YAY! I’ve begun to put contact paper and shelve liner on the shelves themselves. I’ve had several battles with that contact paper. I had to be the one that won the fight though. That was all that mattered. LOL!
Here’s the before picture of the kitchen .. .
Excuse all of the junk lying around for this post. It will eventually be all picked up and nice again. . .I promise. This kitchen is pretty small. Yet, for one person it fits the bill just right. One thing we don’t know yet is if the dishwasher works or not. In most of the foreclosed homes we looked at, one thing we noticed is that they will remove the working items from the home. Don’t know why they do these things, but it is being done. They will remove items like the air conditioners, stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers. Luckily for us, the air conditioner is in working condition, but we do not know if the dishwasher works. We will soon find that out. If it works then we will keep it, but if it doesn’t we will replace it with the one I have now. My parents made a makeshift kitchen in our two-story home, just so I didn’t have to use their space. So that is why I still have one now.
With doing the contact paper as I have been doing, we noticed how bad the shelving were. They had bubbles in them from the wood rising, and looked to be mold spots on them. But don’t worry they have all been properly treated well enough to reuse. Here’s a picture to show you some of the damage that we faced.
Can you see why I said it was a must to have contact paper on those shelves now? I hope so, because boy did they need it. I will so enjoy my pantry that is in the kitchen. It is filled with a lot of shelves that will be useful for storing food when I move in.
See all of those shelves for storage? Don’t you love it? Oh and did you notice my sweet Harley behaving in his kennel while I was busy working? What a good dog he is, love him to death.
Now you can see nice pretty shelving, instead of that old yucky stuff. This week we have also starting removing all of that wallpaper off the wall. I decided not to have paper in my house at all. It is almost going out of style. Now, they are doing those fancy vynal lettering against the wall. The beautiful thing about that is that you can take it down and replace it with something else. That’s the thing I like about not using wallpaper.
See, there is no stove in this house. We will have to buy a new one. Also, there will be no island in that kitchen as we are removing it. We looked at doing some other options with it, but it just wasn’t going to work out.
So, even there we still have a long way to go before move in date, we at least can began to see some new progress. Now, I just continue to pray for strength and stamina throughout this process. We don’t won’t anything putting us behind.
This week my dad also put in a new filter for the pool and began to run the chemicals in them. So we should see a difference soon with the pool. I’ll post some more pictures in a few days. That will be the end of this post, and watch for post 2 coming soon.
